This is blogging for beginners guide. This blog will take you by the hand and show you how to start a blog in Nigeria or anywhere in the world, even if you do not know your left from your right.
You have probably gone through the internet and with the load of information available, you can’t seem to find where to begin.
I can help you with that.
I first heard about blogging in the early years when Linda Ikeji started trending. That was 2011 precisely.
I was confused about what it was or even how she was making so much money.
It has taken me over 10 years of mistakes and financial losses, taking countless online video tutorials to get here and I want to spare you all that time.
In this blog, I’m going to be detailing practical steps you should take from day 1 to publishing and running your blog.
I know a lot of people do not like reading long-form posts (even though it’s an SEO strategy), so I will try as much as possible to keep each post short and practical.
I wouldn’t want to bore you with fluff, so every post starts with immediate action.
Here are things you should note from day one.
- Blogging is hard work. It’s not a get-rich-quick scheme. Even if your blog is about daily news or entertainment, you still have to source the information to publish. And that, my friend, takes time.
- What’s your budget? If you have none but you want to just explore if blogging is something you can do, then I suggest you use any free platform, ranging from blogger.com, wordpress.com, or wix.com. There are tons of existing information on how to set up free blogs online. You wouldn’t need to do much except get a name, start publishing, and share your blog link with your family, friends, and readers. There are also disadvantages to using these free platforms in the area of ownership and monetization.
- If you are serious about blogging and you look forward to actually monetizing the blog, then you need a budget. A minimum of 35,000 naira should be able to get you up and running. That budget will get you a name, a host, and a week of Facebook ads.
- The initial tutorial will be all about WordPress Blogging. This is because it’s the most popular platform and allows a lot of customization to suit your own needs. In the future, I will add posts for those desiring to use other platforms.
Before we get you on the step-by-step guide, here are preliminary posts you should read up on.

- Also, Know the Difference Between WordPress.com and WordPress.org. Choosing the wrong one when you have the intention of monetizing could be time-consuming and stressful for you.
