Why Solving Maths Without a Calculator can Boost Your Brain Power
I applied for a role that required me to take a test.
It looked like Quantitative reasoning and Verbal reasoning.
The instruction said not to use a calculator, just paper and pen and there was a timer. 20 minutes for 50 questions.

I was trying out a calculation that had decimal points and for a second, I got confused.
Looking at the timer running, I picked up my phone to do the calculation sharply when I remembered the instruction.
I slowed my heartbeat down and did the maths and got it.
I don’t know if it is the timer that made me nervous or the fact that I have not done such calculation on paper by myself in a long time.
I had to deliberately find other problems to solve because it seems my brain atabago nchalla (is getting rusty) in that area.
I’m so quick to pick up a calculator that I don’t blame the woman that said her husband who borrowed 2,500 naira on two occasions should pay back 41,000 instead of 5,000.
I was trying to remember how we carry 1 over.
